Microsoft Phone Scam

If you receive a phone call from a security ‘expert’ at Microsoft offering to fix your PC – it’s a scam.

Put the phone down immediately. Do not speak to them.

Microsoft will NEVER ring you out of the blue like this.

Analysis of those reports suggests that callers purport to be from a variety of organisations such as Microsoft, TalkTalk, BT as well as more generic sounding organisations such as the ‘Windows Technical Department’.

The caller will tell you there is a problem with your computer and offer to take control of the computer remotely and “diagnose” the problem. They will probably offer to fix the problems for hundreds of pounds or say that you are eligible for a refund.

If you do allow the criminals (This is what they are) to access your computer or pay them money:

a) Disconnect your computer from the Internet, power it down and give us a ring. Your computer is now infected with malware and not safe to use. It may try to attack other devices on your network.

b) Contact your bank and stop any payments and cancel your credit card if you used it.
